Agentic Commerce HQ
What it is, who it is for, then how you turn it on.

What agentic commerce is

Agentic commerce is shopping where an AI agent does some or all of the work: find the thing, compare options, fill a cart, sometimes pay. You set a goal and a constraint. The agent acts inside that box.

How it differs from a search box

Search returns links. A recommendation engine suggests the next SKU. An agent takes a job ("reorder the same coffee when I'm out, stay under $18") and walks the steps. That can stop at a product card. It can also hit checkout.

I use "agent" the way the vendors do: software that calls tools, not a chatbot that only talks. ChatGPT shopping, Gemini in AI Mode, and Amazon's Buy for Me all sit in this bucket. They are not the same product. The word is shared. The checkout is not.

The two jobs

If you are a shopper, the agent is a clerk. You care about whether it bought the right size, used your card, and left a receipt you can reverse.

If you sell, the agent is a new storefront you do not fully design. Catalog, price, inventory, and policy have to be readable by software. Your checkout may happen inside someone else's chat, or the chat may dump the buyer on your site. That split is the whole industry argument right now.

What this site will not do

I will not tell you this replaces every product page by 2027. McKinsey and vendor blogs love a trillion-dollar slide. Treat those as marketing until a named retailer publishes numbers you can audit. What we can say from public specs: Google and Shopify published the Universal Commerce Protocol in January 2026. OpenAI and Stripe published the Agentic Commerce Protocol in September 2025. Both are live enough to argue about. Both are still changing.

Next: what is actually live. Then pick a door: shopper or Shopify.
